"The Haunting of Hill House" talks about the story of flashbacks between the past and present of a fractured family. Inspired by the gothic novel by Shirley Jackson, and directed by Mike Flanagan, the series succeeded in making its viewers sad because of the tragic story of the Crain family. The series only consists of 1 season and totals 10 episodes, but Mike managed to pack it very well and in detail because each episode tells the POV of each character.
It tells the story of Hugh and Olivia Crain's family who have just moved into a mansion called Hill House with their five children: Steve, Shirley, Theo, Luke, and Nell. They plan to renovate the mansion because they are going to make Olivia's dream house. But due to an unexpected repair, they have to stay longer.
They begin to experience more paranormal phenomena, which leads to a tragic loss and the family fleeing the house. After another tragedy strikes, the Crain siblings and their estranged father reunite, and they are forced to confront how their time in Hill House has affected each of them. The plot alternates between two timelines, following five adult siblings whose paranormal experiences at Hill House continue to haunt them today, and flashbacks depicting events leading up to the fateful night in 1992 when the family escaped from the mansion.
