Pride and Prejudice is a 2005 romantic drama film directed by Joe Wright, which is based on Jane Austen's 1813 novel of the same name. The film follows five sisters from an English landed gentry family as they deal with marriage, morality, and misconceptions. Keira Knightley plays Elizabeth Bennet, and Matthew Macfadyen plays her romantic interest, Mr. Darcy.

The plot revolves around protagonist Elizabeth Bennet, who learns from her mother that Mr. Bingley has been invited to stay with them after meeting him at a ball. Mr. Darcy's friend, Elizabeth, finds herself attracted to him. She is prejudiced against him because of his pride and haughty demeanor, which she regards as rude and arrogant. Meanwhile, Mr. Bingley falls in love with Elizabeth's older sister Jane. Despite the fact that he was already engaged to another woman, with whom he ended his relationship after meeting Elizabeth Bennet at their house party earlier in the story.
